National and international COVID-19 reports, together with expert interviews from the first phase of P3Dx in 2024, form the basis for this subprogramme. These findings are deepened and complemented through thematic round-table discussions with project partners and experts.
P3Dx focuses on the following themes within the Prerequisites subprogramme:
Modelling: Using mathematical modelling to define the test characteristics that match each intended use and target population — for example test speed, specificity, and analytical sensitivity.
Data: Mapping, together with a broad group of stakeholders, the obstacles that affect the effective sharing of test data during a pandemic. P3Dx will align with existing initiatives on health data.
Logistical framework: Defining the logistical preconditions across different phases of a pandemic, with a focus on making test innovations quickly accessible.
Legal framework: Identifying the regulatory headroom within the In Vitro Diagnostic Medical Devices Regulation (IVDR) and related legislation that can be used to accelerate the deployment of test innovations for pandemic testing purposes.
Test uptake: Translating findings from the behavioural sciences into test characteristics that promote test uptake. How do the citizen perspective, vulnerable groups, and people with limited literacy affect the technical and practical aspects of test innovations?
